How to make a QR code
- Choose what the code should open: a link, plain text, a Wi-Fi network, an email or a phone number.
- Fill in the details. The preview updates as you type.
- Optionally change the colours or add your logo under Style.
- Download it as a PNG for screens and documents, or an SVG for print. Scan it with your phone once before you print a big batch.
A Wi-Fi QR code for your shop or café
Choose Wi-Fi, type the network name and password exactly as they appear on your router, and print the code by the till or on table cards. Getting a code that scans every time
Scanners need contrast and a quiet border. Keep the code dark on a light background. Don't crop the white margin, and print it at least 2 cm across, larger if people will scan it from a distance. For short links, Medium error correction is plenty. Use High if the code will be printed on something that gets scuffed.
Questions
- Do these QR codes expire?
- No. The link or text is stored inside the code itself, not on our servers, so it keeps working for as long as the thing it points to exists. Some sites sell "dynamic" codes that stop working when you cancel a subscription. These don't.
- Is it really free for business use?
- Yes. Print the codes on menus, flyers, packaging or shop windows. There's no watermark and no limit on how many you make.
- Can I add my logo?
- Yes. Upload a PNG, JPG, WebP or SVG under Style. The generator switches to the highest error correction automatically, so the code still scans with part of it covered.
- PNG or SVG, which should I download?
- PNG works everywhere: messages, social posts, documents. SVG is a vector file that stays sharp at any size, which is what printers and sign makers usually ask for.
- Why won't my QR code scan?
- The usual causes are low contrast (a light code on a light background), printing it too small, or cutting off the blank border around it. Keep the code dark on a light background, print it at least 2 cm wide, and leave the border in place.
- Is my Wi-Fi password sent anywhere?
- No. The code is generated by your browser on your device. Nothing you type is uploaded.
