How to make a Wi-Fi QR code
- Type your network name (SSID) exactly as it appears in your phone's Wi-Fi list, including capitals and spaces.
- Choose the security type. For most routers that's WPA / WPA2 / WPA3.
- Enter the password. It's case-sensitive.
- Scan the preview with your own phone to check it connects, then download it as a PNG or SVG and print it.
Where to find your network name and password
Most routers have a sticker on the back or bottom listing the network name and password. If you changed them, you can usually see them on a phone that's already connected. On an iPhone, open Settings, then Wi-Fi, tap the ⓘ next to the network and tap Password. On most Android phones, open Wi-Fi settings, tap the network and choose Share.
Where to put it
Wherever people usually ask for the password: on table cards in a café or restaurant, at a hotel or clinic reception, in the welcome book of a holiday rental, or on the wall of an office meeting room. Print it at least 3 cm wide so it scans from arm's length, and add a line like “Scan to join our Wi-Fi” so people know what it is.

- Does a Wi-Fi QR code work on iPhone and Android?
- Yes. Recent iPhones and most Android phones can read Wi-Fi QR codes with the built-in camera app. The phone shows a "Join network" prompt, and one tap connects.
- What happens if I change my Wi-Fi password?
- The old code stops working, because the password is stored inside the code. Make a new code with the new password and reprint it.
- Is it safe to put my Wi-Fi password in a QR code?
- Anyone who can scan the code can join the network, just as if they'd read the password off a card. For customers and visitors, use your router's guest network so they can't reach your own computers or printers.
- Is my Wi-Fi password sent to your website?
- No. The code is generated by your browser on your own device. Nothing you type is uploaded or stored by us.
- My network is hidden. Will it still work?
- Yes. Tick Hidden network before downloading, so phones know to look for a network that isn't broadcasting its name.
- Which security type should I pick?
- Almost every modern router uses WPA2 or WPA3. Choose the WPA / WPA2 / WPA3 option unless your router settings say WEP, or the network has no password.
