What an invoice should include
A clear invoice gets paid faster. Include your business name and contact details, the client's name, a unique invoice number, the issue date and due date, an itemised list of what you did or sold, any tax, and the total. Put your bank details or payment link in the notes so the client doesn't have to ask.
Many countries have extra rules, such as showing your VAT or GST registration number. Check what applies to you and add it to your business details. Invoicing in India? The GST invoice generator adds GSTIN, HSN/SAC codes and the CGST, SGST and IGST split for you.
Choosing a due date
Fourteen or thirty days is common for freelancers and small businesses. Shorter terms get you paid sooner. Whatever you choose, write the terms in the notes, for example “Payment due within 14 days”, so there's no confusion.
Questions
- Is this invoice generator really free?
- Yes. Every feature is free, including your logo, custom colours, tax and PDF download. There's no watermark on the invoice and no limit on how many you make.
- Do I need to create an account?
- No. Your details are saved in this browser automatically, so they're still there next time you open the page on the same device.
- Where is my invoice data stored?
- Only in your browser's local storage on your own device. Nothing is uploaded to our servers. Clearing your browser data, or using a private window, removes it.
- Can I add GST or VAT?
- Yes. Under Tax and discount, set the tax name to GST, VAT or whatever your country uses, and enter the rate. It's calculated on the subtotal after any discount.
- How do I number my invoices?
- Use a simple sequence like INV-0001, INV-0002. Next invoice keeps your business details, clears the client and items, and bumps the number for you.
- Which currencies can I use?
- USD, EUR, GBP, INR, CAD, AUD, NZD, SGD, AED, ZAR, NGN, PKR, PHP and JPY. The PDF font can't print every currency symbol, so rupees appear as Rs. and euros as EUR in the downloaded PDF.
