- Set the receipt number, the date you were paid, the payment method and, if you have one, the transaction reference.
- Add what was paid for, with quantities and prices, plus any tax or discount.
- Press Download PDF. The receipt shows the amount paid and a clear PAID mark.
What a receipt should include
- Your business name and contact details.
- A unique receipt number, so you can find it again later.
- The date the payment was received.
- The customer's name.
- What was paid for, with amounts, and any tax.
- The total paid and how it was paid.
- A transaction reference for card, UPI or bank payments.
Keep a copy of every receipt
Receipts are part of your business records. Most tax authorities expect you to keep records for several years, so save each PDF in one folder, named by receipt number. Next receipt moves to the next number for you, so your sequence stays in order.

Questions
- Is this receipt generator free?
- Yes. Every feature is free, including your logo and PDF download. There's no watermark and no limit on how many receipts you make.
- What's the difference between a receipt and an invoice?
- An invoice asks to be paid: it lists what's owed and when it's due. A receipt confirms you've been paid: it shows what was paid for, how much, when and how. You often send an invoice first and a receipt once the money arrives.
- Can I make a receipt for a part payment or deposit?
- This version records payment in full. For a deposit or part payment, describe it as the item, for example "Deposit for kitchen fitting", with the amount you received.
- Which payment methods can I show?
- Cash, card, bank transfer, UPI, cheque, PayPal or Other. Add the transaction ID in the reference field so both of you can match the receipt to the payment.
- Where are my details saved?
- Only in your browser on this device, so your business details are there next time. Nothing is uploaded to our servers.
- Is a receipt enough for tax purposes?
- For many small sales it is, but if you're registered for VAT or GST, some sales also need a proper tax invoice. Check your local rules, or use the GST invoice generator for India.
